Situation
DMP develops next-generation 3-D graphics processors for the embedded market with a focus on the digital consumer, including products such as mobile phones, handheld games, navigation systems and arcade games. DMP's graphics intellectual property (IP) core for next-generation embedded systems has allowed them to make high-quality image displays that rival traditional high-end systems by keeping the system size, footprint and levels of energy consumption as small as possible. As a startup in a highly competitive industry, DMP needed a datapath design process that would allow them to deliver the highest quality products to market quickly and with minimal engineering resources.
Solution
DMP licensed Arithmatica’s CellMath tools and IP as a complement to their existing design process to provide the datapath design automation they required to produce competitive graphics products in a timely manner. CellMath’s innovative architectures, libraries and algorithms for optimizing datapath designs enabled DMP’s engineers to make design tradeoffs based on power consumption, area efficiency and performance.
Results
Arithmatica’s CellMath tools provided DMP with optimized floating-point functions and an automated design process that significantly improved the performance and reduced the die area of their high-performance graphics processor products.

Client Perspective
“CellMath tools provided the automation and built-in timing engine that enabled us to quickly explore many different architectures early in the design process, something that would never be easy, given our schedule, when hand coding these functions. This gave us higher quality and higher performance designs and allowed us to focus on differentiating our product in core graphics features."
